What Happened in November

November flew by. We celebrated the birthday's of Ethan and Zach on November 15, and on November 16th we welcomed Oliver to the family. He arrived on his big brother's birthday and was a delightful surprise for everyone because he wasn't set to arrive until December 4th.
And, if that little surprise wasn't enough Ashley decided she didn't want to wait until her due date of December 26th and wanted to join her cousins for November birthdays. She came November 30th at 3:05 a.m. Grandbabies are so wonderful. Congratulations to moms and dads and babies. Did I mention I forgot the camera again?

A Fun Halloween party...

We sure had a fun party on October 30th. Everyone came with pumpkins ready to carve. We made some pretty awesome jack-o-lanterns. Didn't take any pictures though of that, but we did get some pictures of the families dressed up. Can you guess their costumes?

A Fishing and a camping and a.....

Well, we went camping last week. It was soooo... very cold that night, that the water froze in our drink container. But we had lots of fun, we caught a couple of trout and went for a really long drive around Vernon, Tooele and up into Lookout Pass and Simpson Springs. We took the dogs, and I think Ace was car sick by the time we got home because if a dog could be green, he was.
Carbon smoked the trout on Saturday while we were watching Conference. We had it Sunday for dinner and it was yummy. I want to go back and catch some more so we can smoke them. The only unfortunate thing that happened was I got sick. I guess it was a mild case of the flu, but I'm feeling much better and looking forward to the birthday celebrations this month. Oh, and as usual, I forgot the camera so no pictures. I guess I'm going to have to put camera on my to do list when we go anywhere.

The Deck Completion Project!

We did it, we finally finished the new deck over the old patio. It took some time, but I really like it. It's going to be so much nicer to have bbq's and get togethers.

Four Generations

We had a fun visit with grandma and grandpa Shular as they stopped over on their way home from a short stay in North Carolina and various other places in between. We got together on Sunday and Monday. While grandkids, and greatgrandkids were together we decided to take some four generation pictures. It was lots of fun to have grandma and grandpa here.

A Boy and a Box

When a boy and a box meet, what do you get? Lots of fun. A few weeks ago Carl asked if we had a box so he could make a tractor. I didn't know what a tractor was so I just watched. He cut out the ends of the box and creased it every 12 inches or so and then you just roll along with it.

The boys had lots of fun! And we girls just sat back and wondered. Do they ever grow up?

Back from vacation

Well, we're back from our vacation. It was filled with interesting things like garlic chocolate (I'd advise you not to try it, it may ruin your reeses peanut butter cup friendship) at the Garlic festival. As most of you know we had quite a scare. Carbon lost his wallet. We had to hurry and cancel the credit cards, but as there was an honest person who found it, we were able to get it back. We also spent a nice day at the Gilroy Gardens amusement park. Shelby didn't want to go on the roller coaster, but grandpa helped her by telling them to slow the ride down. Of course they did, so she was able to enjoy the ride. (They really didn't, but she thought they did). We had fun visiting Amy and the family, and then we spent a few days visiting my parents. It was so hot, Carly was the only one to go swimming. I thought about it, but just wanted to do something else. And we won't have to bore you with all the pictures we took, because we forgot the camera.

Thanks, the 4th and Shadow

Will and Diana came on Saturday, the 28th of June, to help us get the patio down. Thanks for all your help. Carbon was gone to scout camp for a week so not much has been done since. We had a 4th of July gathering and had lots of food and fun. The patio seemed so much bigger. News update on Shadow. He suffered a back injury that has left him with nerve damage. He spent a night at the animal hospital and came home Tuesday evening with a bag load of prescriptions. He is doing much better. However, he probably won't be able to run like he used to. Hopefully he will be able to get around. He is confined to a dog crate for two weeks so that he can rest and recuperate. I have to carry him outside to do his business and then carry him back in. He can't jump up or go up or down stairs.

Patio Progress...

Well, the patio is in progress. And you can see that it is not being filled in with cement. After looking around at other cement patios in the neighborhood, we decided to build a wood deck instead. Hopefully it will look beautiful when it is completed.

Old Ugly Patio

School is finally out. I have so many things I want to do. Top of the list is to do something about the patio. It is time it gets fixed up. The boards are rotting and screws are poking out. I am going to pull them up and fill in the spaces with cement. Then, if I can figure out how to do it, I am going to put a new surface down. Also, I am looking for an affordable patio set. If you see one on sale somewhere, let me know.

Update...

It's been a while since I updated my blog. We got the fence fixed and after some threats, they came back and did it right. Carbon survived his long inpatient stay with Lifetree Clinical Research. That was a long 7 weeks! One of the best things that happened was Jacob coming home. He came home February 5th and now weighs 8lbs 4oz. I caught him smiling so I just had to put his picture up. He seems to be doing well and is slowly growing.

What Happened to the Fence??

We had an unexpected surprise Tuesday morning. It really wasn't a nice surprise either. I guess during the night a car slid through our fence and into the yard. It took out about half of the front fence and broke the wooden post on the side fence. My cranberry cottoneasters got destroyed too! I just love honest people, because the person who did it just drove away. Who do you think gets to foot the bill to fix it?

Ace and Shadow

Amy and Jeremy had a dog. Now we have two dogs. When you have to move, what do you do with your animal friend? You find a good home for him. A family that Amy knew was travelling here to Utah to visit. They kindly allowed Ace to travel with them.

Shadow isn't too thrilled, but he has always been top dog. Now he has to share my affection with another. Ace is so lovable and good, I don't think he'll be a problem. I hope that they learn to get along and that Shadow will let Ace play with his toys.

So This Was 2008....

The year 2008 started out really wonderful. In January we welcomed Addison Rose to our family.
February was cold and March windy.

April we had some surprises. Amy and Shelby came to visit over spring break. What fun we had. With all the grandkids here, we took the opportunity to take some grandkid pics.

May I was busy at school in computer lab #2 helping with school wide testing. What fun!!! Then I took a quick trip to California for a little Shular Clan get together.

June school is out, and I went to a Webelos Day Camp.

July was really busy, Carbon was gone to a scout camp the first week and I got braces put back on my top teeth again. Later in the month we went to New York and Ohio with my parents for a
church history tour. It was really fun and one of the high points was getting to see Niagra Falls. The Sacred Grove and all the church sites were very fun and we learned a lot about the early church and its leaders.

August Carbon went on a trek with the youth and I prepared to go back to school. September back in school, yeah!!!

October was a full month. We had the surprise birth of grandson,
Jacob Nethaniel 15 weeks early, and we also welcomed another grandson Colton Leon in October. That brought the total of grandchildren to eleven. We made another trip out to California to attend the graduation of Jeremy from the Highway Patrol Academy.

November we had Thanksgiving at home with everyone who could come. Carbon made a trip out to California to help Amy and Jeremy with their house.

December was a very busy month. With all the Christmas activities and events it went by very quickly. I made another quick trip out to California to help Amy pack and paint so she could move in early January. I also got my top braces off after 5 months, hopefully my teeth will stay put this time.

I'm sure I didn't get everything that happened in 2008, but it was a good year. We miss President Hinckley with his passing early in the year. America had an historic election with Barak Obama being elected President. I wonder how things will change in 2009??
